Piaggio / Aprilia Ignition Coil (CDI)
🔧 Ignition Coil · CDI Unit · Electronic Ignition System
For Piaggio, Aprilia, Italjet 125cc 4-stroke models · OEM replacement
This is an ignition coil (CDI unit) designed for Piaggio, Aprilia, and Italjet 125cc 4-stroke models. It is a core component of the engine's ignition system, responsible for controlling ignition timing and generating the high-voltage spark for proper engine operation.
Modern 4-stroke Vespa models (125cc and above, as well as 50cc 4-valve 4-strokers) feature separate ignition coil and CDI units. When the CDI unit fails, it causes the motor to misfire, run rough, and may lead to complete failure of the electrical system – requiring immediate replacement.
✨ Key Functions: Ignition timing control · High voltage generation · Compatible with immobilizer · Direct replacement

📌 Important Note: Certain Vespa models (such as 50cc 2-stroke) have an integrated CDI. Modern 4-stroke Vespa models (125cc and above, and 50cc 4-valve 4-stroke) have separate ignition coil and CDI units – this product is for those models. Unless otherwise labeled, this CDI unit is compatible with all models equipped with an electronic immobilizer device.
Piaggio CDI Wiring Reference Diagram
The CDI unit is the core control component of the ignition system. Failure symptoms include:
- Misfiring: Sudden hesitation during riding, feels like fuel or spark cut-out.
- Hard Starting: Engine is difficult to start or requires multiple attempts.
- Rough Idle: Engine vibrates at idle, unstable RPM.
- Poor Acceleration: Feels underpowered, sluggish response.
- Electrical System Failure: Severe cases may cause complete electrical system failure.
⚠️ Important: CDI unit failure not only affects engine performance but may also cause complete electrical system failure. Inspect and replace immediately if failure symptoms appear.
- OEM Specifications: Manufactured to Piaggio/Aprilia original specifications for perfect electrical matching.
- Immobilizer Compatible: This CDI unit is compatible with all models equipped with an electronic immobilizer device.
- Replacement Part Numbers: Replaces Aprilia AP8124743 / Piaggio 294150 and other OEM parts.
- Quality Components: High-quality electronic components ensure stable and reliable ignition performance.
- Direct Replacement: Perfect substitute for damaged or worn original CDI units.
🔧 Installation Tip
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal before installation to prevent shorts.
2. Locate the original CDI unit and disconnect the connector.
3. Remove the mounting bolts and take out the old CDI unit.
4. Install the new CDI unit, secure with mounting bolts, and connect the connector.
5. Ensure the connector is fully seated for good contact.
6. Reconnect the battery and test starting and idle operation.
7. If your vehicle has an immobilizer, ensure proper communication between CDI and immobilizer.
