This is the WH High-Quality Starter Clutch Assembly (also known as one-way clutch or overrunning clutch), a critical component of the electric starting system. It is specifically designed for QJ153QMI engines and fits Keeway and other GY6-based 125cc and 150cc scooter models equipped with 153QMI or 152QMI engines.
The starter clutch is located on the right side interior of the engine, engaging with the starter motor gear. When the starter motor operates, the clutch locks in one direction to rotate the crankshaft and start the engine. After the engine starts, the clutch automatically disengages to prevent the crankshaft from back-driving the starter motor. 🔩 How It Works
When starting, the starter motor gear rotates the clutch outer race. Internal rollers wedge and lock, driving the crankshaft to start the engine. After the engine starts, the crankshaft rotates faster than the clutch outer race, causing the rollers to retract and disengage, preventing the crankshaft from back-driving the starter motor.

🔍 Quick Test Method: Remove the starter motor and manually spin the starter clutch gear. If the gear spins freely in both directions (under normal conditions it should only spin in one direction and lock in the opposite), the clutch is worn out and needs replacement. Frequent starting attempts and hard starting conditions accelerate clutch wear.

🔧 Installation Guide
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal before starting for safety.
2. Remove the right side CVT cover and transmission components to access the starter clutch area.
3. Remove the starter motor. Secure the magneto rotor with a holding tool, then remove the starter clutch retaining nut (note: left-hand thread on most GY6 engines).
4. Remove the old starter clutch, clean the mounting surface and crankshaft journal thoroughly.
5. Install the new starter clutch and tighten the retaining nut to factory torque specifications.
6. Before reinstalling the starter motor, check the engagement between the motor gear and clutch gear.
7. Reinstall transmission components and CVT cover in reverse order, reconnect the battery, and test starting function.
Important Note: The starter clutch retaining nut typically has left-hand threads — turn clockwise to loosen, counter-clockwise to tighten.
