For CG125 · CG150 · CB150 · CG250 · CB250 4-Stroke Engines
This is the CG Starter Relay (Starter Motor Relay), an essential component of the motorcycle electric starting system. Suitable for CG125, CG150, CB150, CG250, CB250, and other 4-stroke engines, widely used in scooters, motorcycles, and more.
A relay is an electrical switch that opens and closes under the application of a second electrical circuit. In basic operation, the relay controls an output circuit of much higher power than the input circuit, allowing the controls for the high-power circuit to be made with lower capacity wiring and switches.
✨ Core Functions: Small current controls large current · Protect start switch · Connect starter motor circuit · Ensure reliable electric start
🔩 Operation
When the start button is pressed, a small current (approximately 0.5-2A) flows through the relay coil, creating a magnetic field that pulls the contacts closed. Once closed, high current (approximately 30-100A) from the battery flows through the relay to the starter motor, driving the motor to start the engine. Releasing the start button de-energizes the coil, opening the contacts and stopping the starter motor.
💡 Design Advantages
Using a relay allows the start switch to handle only a small current, preventing high current from burning the switch contacts. It also allows the use of thinner wiring for the start switch circuit, reducing cost and weight while improving system reliability.

💡 Compatibility Note: This starter relay is widely used in the scooter and motorcycle industry for electric starting systems. Suitable for CG125, CG150, CB150, CG250, CB250, and other 4-stroke engine vehicles. Verify the original relay specifications and wiring before installation.
💨 Common Symptoms
• No response when pressing start button (no clicking sound)
• Relay clicks but starter motor does not turn
• Starter motor runs continuously, won't stop
• Rapid clicking sound when starting (worn contacts or coil failure)
• Starter motor turns slowly (burnt or corroded contacts)
🔍 Possible Causes
• Open or shorted relay coil
• Burned or welded main contacts
• Oxidized contacts causing high resistance
• Failed internal return spring
• Loose or corroded terminals
🔍 Quick Test Method: Measure relay coil resistance with a multimeter (typically 50-150Ω). Jump the two large terminals with a wire — if the starter motor runs normally, the relay is faulty and needs replacement.
- Standard Quality: High-quality copper contacts for excellent conductivity, arc resistance, and long service life.
- High-Capacity Contacts: Contact rating meets the high current demands of starter motors for reliable starting.
- Precision Coil: Precision-wound coil for stable pull-in voltage and responsive operation.
- Durable Housing: High-strength engineering plastic housing with excellent heat resistance, aging resistance, and vibration resistance.
- OEM Specification: Manufactured to exact CG/CB series engine factory specifications for a perfect replacement of damaged original relays.
- Cost-Effective: Excellent value, ideal replacement for original factory relays.
🔧 Installation Guide
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety.
2. Locate the original starter relay (typically near the battery or under the seat).
3. Note the terminal positions — take a photo or mark them to avoid incorrect connections.
4. Disconnect all wires from the relay (typically two large terminals for battery and starter motor, two small terminals for start switch wires).
5. Remove the relay mounting bolt and remove the old relay.
6. Install the new relay and connect the wires (Large terminals: battery positive and starter motor; Small terminals: start switch wires).
7. Ensure all connections are secure.
8. Reconnect the battery negative terminal and test the starting function.
Tip: Pay attention to distinguish between large and small terminals — incorrect connections may damage the relay or cause starting issues. If unsure about wiring, consult the vehicle wiring diagram or a professional technician.
Spec Confirmation: Before purchasing, verify the original relay specifications and wiring configuration to ensure compatibility. Different models may use relays with different pin configurations — verify carefully.
Installation Note: Starter relay installation involves the electrical system. Professional installation is recommended. Pay attention to distinguish between large terminals (main circuit) and small terminals (control circuit) — incorrect wiring may cause short circuits or relay damage.
Related Checks: If starting issues persist after relay replacement, check battery charge, starter motor, start switch, and wiring connections. Product images are for reference only; actual product may vary.
